Twas the day before Christmas
and all through the office
a child was heartbroken, so devastated;
there could be no solace!
Santa, I hear, comes in our sleep,
which just won't do
for I want to see him.
Surely you knew!
If he comes in the night
by morn he'll be gone
and I will have missed him,
the child wailed on.
Why must I see him?
To ask for a hug!
My heart's desire this Christmas,
he said with a tug.
The child cried and cried,
it went on for quite awhile.
Snot and tears everywhere,
so high was his rile.
Finally, a letter to Santa was it:
Dear Santa,
I want a hug. I want to see you.
Love, Child
The parchment filled,
a calm came and settled
just in time to leave
no longer rattled.
