Reviewing O, B, X, S
September 2-6
Review Week
We are four letters in: O, B, X, and S. Which brings us to Week #5; a week with a holiday (Labor Day), and for some no therapy. School starts this week for many area schools. Seems like a good time to pause and review.
Is your child having a more difficult time with one of our four letters? This would be a good week to spend some more time highlighting that letter.
Spend some time working on discrimination skills. Which one is the ‘s’? Where is the ‘b’? Which letter makes the “ah” (o) sound? What sound does the ‘lip popper’/’b’ make? Listen for the ‘x’ sound: box or bob? This is the letter…(pause for your child to fill in the blank). Let’s count how many ‘Ss’ are on this page.
Reread favorite books from the past four weeks. Read some alphabet books.
Make letter boxes similar to these posted by Speech Gadget. Don’t have little jewelry-type cardboard boxes? Make your letter books instead. Use pictures cut out of magazines, printed from computer/internet, or draw your own.
Any activities from the past four weeks that you didn’t get around to trying? Or some favorite ones your child would love to do again? Do them this week, incorporating all four sounds/letters.
Does your child need to work on writing the letters? Check out my post on writing the alphabet.
Check out some of the alphabet apps.
Games like Spot it! Alphabet by Blue Orange are a great way to work on important visual discrimination, matching, and letter identification skills. Blue Orange even offers a free downloadable game.
Do a letter treasure hunt (here’s an example by Reading Confetti) focusing on our four letters: O, B, X, S. For more of a challenge, match the uppercase to the lowercase letter.
How are your “letter of the week” endeavors going? What books and activities have been a hit with your child? I’d love to hear!
