AACfamily Friday (week 4)

Welcome to #AACfamily Friday (week 4)!  Wondering what #AACfamily is?  Read about it here.  For more #AACfamily photos and fun, check out Uncommon Sense Blog after you are done here.

Can you imagine typing your entire dissertation in Morse code?  That is what Dr. Kristin Rytter (another local adult AAC user) did in pursuit of her Ph.D. at the University of Washington!  She received her doctorate in Developmental Psychology.  After almost dying at birth, doctors told her parents that she was a vegetable.  She now runs her own business lecturing and consulting, and has also written a book: The People Who Raised Me Beyond.  I think I have already found my 'special read' for next May (Better Hearing & Speech Month).  You can read more about Dr. Rytter on her website.

Here are a couple of quick 1-2 minute clips of Dr. Rytter on YouTube:

A couple of weeks ago, I shared several blogs written by parents of children who use AAC to communicate.  This week, I am sharing resources written or curated by professionals in the field.  In no particular order:

PrAACtical AAC  PrAACtical AAC was started by two speech-language pathology professors passionate about AAC.  Dr Robin Parker passed away this summer; Dr. Carole Zangari continues to blog and share information via their website, Twitter and Facebook page.  Great resource!

Jane Farrall Consulting I first heard about Jane Farrall (out of Australia) through her amazing list of AAC apps.  Seriously the "go-to" list.  She has so much great information to share via her website, Twitter, and Facebook page.

Lauren S. Enders, SLP is amazing!  I have no idea how she has time to curate and share all the information she shares via Twitter, Facebook and her FABULOUS Pinterest Boards.

Spectronics; also on Twitter and Facebook

Glenda's Assistive Technology Information and more...; also on Pinterest

Teaching Learners with Multiple Needs; also on Facebook

AAC Girls

One more Friday in October means there is still time to participate in #AACfamily Friday.  Share a picture, story, or resource - anything AAC-related!  Now, go check out Uncommon Sense Blog's post!  It's packed full of great pictures from around the world.
